What is the 7-point rule for outfits?
Home » Fashion Explained » What is the 7-point rule for outfits?
The 7-point rule is a styling method where each item in your outfit receives one or two points, with the goal of reaching around 7 points.
1 point: Basic pieces such as a plain T-shirt, jeans, neutral shoes or simple jewelry.
2 points: Statement pieces such as a patterned jacket, bold bag, colorful shoes or chunky jewelry.
For example:
- Black tank top: 1 point
- Blue jeans: 1 point
- Neutral loafers: 1 point
- Sunglasses: 1 point
- Gold necklace: 1 point
- Statement blazer: 2 points
Total: 7 points
Fewer points may make an outfit feel too simple, while too many statement pieces can make it look busy. Ask My Wardrobe can help you compare different combinations before choosing your final outfit.
